Re-evaluating Peace

It’s a few minutes past 9PM.

I’m sitting in my living room, listening to the calm tunes on Abbie Gamboa’s album, “Pure”, and trying to decide whether I’m bored or something else. My brain is used to some sort of activity at this time — I should be reading something, watching something, learning something… anything… just not nothing.

…or should I?

To what end?

Where am I running?

Who’s chasing?

What is the alternative to this lack of activity? This stillness? This… this… boredom?

Is that the best description I have for peace? If it is, then maybe I could do with a lot more boredom. I’ve seen the alternatives. This is nice.

When did I get addicted to the adrenaline and dopamine rushes? Does life have to be a whirlwind to be fun? Is excitement only in charging at deadlines and basking in the validation of public successes?

Leg off the accelerator… clutch (if it’s manual)… brakes… ease to a stop. Chill.

Let the other drivers on the lane honk their horns. It doesn’t make a difference. If they can pass, they will. If they can’t, they’ll wait. What you will not do, is drive too fast to enjoy the journey. We’re taking the scenic route. Eyes off the speedometer, and take in the view.

There’s a biblical, musical term for this, is there not?
